Sam Houston Statue and Visitor Center

Modern Monument · Huntsville, Texas

A sixty-seven-foot white statue of Sam Houston standing beside Interstate 45 at Huntsville, visible from six miles away and generally described as the tallest statue of an American hero anywhere. It was finished in 1994, it is free, and it is the most arresting thing on the drive between Houston and Dallas by a considerable margin.

7600 Interstate 45 South, Huntsville, Texas, 77340, United States

⚠ THE STATUE IS FREE and stands beside a public car park off I-45, visible at any hour and floodlit after dark. ⚠ VISITOR CENTRE HOURS ARE NOT VERIFIED — check with the City of Huntsville. Sixty-seven feet tall and generally described as the tallest statue of an American hero; the claim is widely repeated and hedged here. Sam Houston's home, museum and grave are three miles away in Huntsville and almost nobody who stops goes on to see them.
