Sam Roi Yot National Park
Sam Roi Yot National Park Limestone Hills Over Marshes And Coast; The Phraya Nakhon Cave Pavilion · Sam Roi Yot, Prachuap Khiri Khan
Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park, the mountain of three hundred peaks, stretches along the coast of Prachuap Khiri Khan province about 45 minutes to an hour south of Hua Hin, a landscape of steep, jagged limestone hills rising straight out of marshes, mangroves, shrimp ponds and sandy bays. Its most famous sight is Phraya Nakhon cave, a vast cavern whose roof has collapsed, where shafts of sunlight fall on a small Thai pavilion built for a royal visit in the late nineteenth century; reaching it means a short boat ride or a headland walk to Laem Sala beach, then a steep climb. Beyond the cave, the park offers a sunrise viewpoint on Khao Daeng hill, boat trips along the Khao Daeng canal through mangroves, the caves of Sai and Kaeo, dusky langurs in the trees and serow on the cliffs, and one of the largest freshwater marshes in Thailand, where herons, storks and migrating birds gather in the cool season. It is an easy day trip from Hua Hin, but a night camping at Laem Sala makes the cave climb far cooler.

NO OPENING TIME HERE WAS CHECKED. The typical pattern: the park and its checkpoints are open every day, roughly from 6 am to 6 pm for day visitors, with campers staying overnight; the longtails from Bang Pu to Laem Sala run through the day in calm weather, with the last boats back in the late afternoon, around 4 to 5 pm; the cave path is best started by about 9 am, and rangers may stop people starting the climb late in the afternoon; the canal boats run from morning until about sunset; the visitor centre keeps office hours. The traps that ruin a visit are arriving after the light shafts have gone, missing the last boat back from Laem Sala, climbing at noon in the heat and descending from Khao Daeng after dark without a torch. Confirm current times before relying on them.
