San Antonio Zoo
Zoo · San Antonio, Texas
A zoo built into an old limestone quarry in Brackenridge Park, which is why its enclosures are set against rock walls rather than fences and why it feels unlike most American zoos. It holds several thousand animals across a compact site, runs a well-regarded conservation programme, and sits a few hundred metres from both the Witte Museum and the Japanese Tea Garden.
