San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge

Iconic Bridge · San Francisco, California

The eight-and-a-half-mile crossing that opened in November 1936, six months before the Golden Gate, and carries far more traffic while receiving a fraction of the attention. Its eastern half was rebuilt after the 1989 earthquake and reopened in 2013 as a single-tower self-anchored suspension span — the largest of its kind in the world.

Interstate 80 between San Francisco and Oakland, San Francisco, California, 94105, United States
