Sandbanks Provincial Park is a beach park on Lake Ontario in Prince Edward County, about 30 km from Picton. It has some of the best freshwater beaches in Ontario, long stretches of pale sand at Outlet Beach and Sandbanks Beach, with shallow, warm water that suits families and young swimmers. Behind the beaches sits the largest baymouth barrier dune system in the world, high dunes that are fragile and must be left alone, so stay on the boardwalks and marked paths. The park is also a campground and a bike route, with a quieter shoreline on the western side. It is very crowded on summer weekends, and a day-use quota means gates can close when the park is full. Go before 10 am, or midweek. It suits beach days, families and campers; it is a poor choice if you want solitude in July. Allow a full day. Confirm fees and pet rules, and bring food, shade and water, since the beaches have little shelter and queues for snacks run long.

Sandbanks is a seasonal beach park, busiest from late June to early September, with the main facilities and lifeguards operating through summer only. Gate hours and office hours change through the year, and day-use entry is limited by a daily quota, so on hot summer weekends the park can close to new day visitors by mid-morning. Camping reservations open months ahead. Outside summer, some areas stay open for walking, cycling and quiet shoreline visits, but services and washrooms are reduced. Confirm current hours, quota rules and any online day-use booking with Ontario Parks before you travel.
