Sapanca Lake

A Freshwater Lake With A Shoreline Of Villas, Restaurants And Cafes, A Lakeside Walking Path, Trout And Fish Dinners And Nearby Mountain Villages. A Short Weekend Break For Istanbul And Kocaeli Residents, With Calm Water For Paddling In Summer · Sapanca, Sakarya

Sapanca Lake is a freshwater lake of roughly 45 sq km (confirm) in Sakarya province, about 120 km east of Istanbul, lying between the old D100 road and the forested ridges of the Samanli mountains. The town of Sapanca sits at its western end, with a lakeside promenade, cafes, small jetties and fish restaurants, while villas, bungalow hotels and weekend houses fill the shore and the hills above. The lake supplies water to nearby cities, so the shore is managed for walking and looking rather than big boats, and the water is calm for paddling and sunset watching. Families from Istanbul and Kocaeli come for trout dinners, long breakfast spreads, cycling the shore path and quiet cabin stays, and at weekends the old road is busy. The surrounding area has plane trees, plateaus, waterfalls and villages within a short drive. Sapanca works best as a short break, a place to slow down rather than a sightseeing marathon.
