Sarah P. Duke Gardens

Botanical Garden · Durham, North Carolina

Fifty-five acres of gardens at the heart of Duke University, begun in 1939 and now among the most visited gardens in the south-east - and free. Five miles of paths run through four distinct areas: the Historic Core with its terraces, the Blomquist Garden of native plants, the Culberson Asiatic Arboretum, and the Doris Duke Center Gardens. It is a working teaching garden as much as an ornamental one, and the native and Asian collections are serious.
