Saratoga National Historical Park

Battlefield · Stillwater, New York

The battlefield where a British army under John Burgoyne was stopped and forced to surrender in October 1777 — the first time in the war an entire British force was captured, and the event that persuaded France to enter on the American side. It is routinely called the turning point of the American Revolution, and it is FIFTEEN MILES SOUTH OF SARATOGA SPRINGS at Stillwater, which confuses almost everybody.
