Sauble Beach is an 11 km beach of fine sand on Lake Huron, on the west side of the Bruce Peninsula about 25 km from Wiarton. It is one of the longest freshwater beaches in Ontario and a classic summer family destination, with wide shallow water, good sunsets and a strip of shops, cottages and parking near the main entrance. It suits families with young children, sunbathers and anyone who wants a simple beach day. It is not a quiet escape in July and August, when it is very crowded and parking fills. Lake Huron stays cold, and outside summer the beach is quiet and cool. Allow half a day to a full day. The beach is free to walk on, but main lots charge parking, so confirm current fees. Wiarton, known for a winter festival, is nearby, and Bruce Peninsula National Park and Tobermory, a separate listing, are about 90 km north. The beach is honest and simple, not a hidden gem, and it is best on a weekday or in September, when parking is easier and the sand is less packed.

Long sandy beach on Lake Huron on the west side of the Bruce Peninsula about 25 km from Wiarton, with a beach-side strip of shops, cottages and parking at the main entrance, South Bruce Peninsula, Ontario, Canada

The beach is a public shoreline and is open at all hours, but its services are seasonal. Parking lots, washrooms, food stands and lifeguards, where provided, usually run from late spring through Labour Day, with the busiest days in July and August. Exact paid-parking hours and lifeguard coverage vary and change from year to year, so confirm with the municipality. Many shops and restaurants on the strip close or reduce hours after the summer season. Sunset is a popular time and the beach stays busy until dark on hot days. In winter the beach is empty and cold, with ice and wind off the lake, and most services are shut.
