Scarborough State Beach

Beach · Narragansett, Rhode Island

Rhode Island's flagship state beach, on Ocean Road south of Narragansett in two units at 870 and 970 Ocean Road, with two large pavilions, a boardwalk and an observation tower. It is the busiest beach in the state on a hot weekend and it is the one to know about for a practical reason: the sand is free and only the parking is charged, which makes it dramatically cheaper for a group than the town beach four miles north that charges every person who walks on.

970 Ocean Road, Narragansett, Rhode Island, 02882, United States

⚠ THE BEACH ITSELF IS FREE — there is no per-person admission, and only parking is charged, which is the significant difference from Narragansett Town Beach four miles north. Parking runs roughly $6 resident and $12 nonresident on weekdays and about $7 and $14 at weekends, with season passes around $30 resident and $60 nonresident. Lifeguards are on duty 9:00 to 18:00 in season. ⚠ OUT OF SEASON THE BEACH IS OPEN, FREE OF ALL CHARGES AND ENTIRELY UNGUARDED. The beach is in two units with separate entrances and lots at 870 and 970 Ocean Road; the northern unit is generally quieter. ⚠ THE CAR PARKS FILL BY MID-MORNING ON SUMMER WEEKENDS AND THERE IS NO OVERFLOW — arrive before ten or after three. Two pavilions, a boardwalk, an observation tower, showers, restrooms and food are provided.
