Utah State Route 12, Boulder, Utah, United States
FREE and open year round — it is a public highway, 123 miles from US-89 near Panguitch to SR-24 near Torrey. ⚠ THE PIN FOR THIS ROW IS AT BOULDER, ROUGHLY MID-ROUTE; the road is not a single point. ⚠ THE HOGBACK SECTION HAS NO GUARDRAILS OR SHOULDERS with steep drops on both sides and nowhere to stop — use the pullouts at either end. ⚠ THE 30-MILE BOULDER MOUNTAIN SECTION CROSSES HIGH COUNTRY and gets real snow, ice and storm closures from autumn to spring; check UDOT road conditions before travelling in the cold months, as the desert ends can be clear while the mountain is not. ⚠ FUEL AND SERVICES ARE FAR APART — fill up at Panguitch, Escalante or Torrey and do not assume anything in between. Long sustained grades will overheat brakes if ridden; use low gear on descents.
