Science Museum Oklahoma
Hands On Science Museum; Founded 1958 As The Oklahoma Science And Arts Foundation · Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
A hands-on science museum on the fairgrounds side of Oklahoma City, founded in 1958 as the Oklahoma Science and Arts Foundation and rebuilt over decades into a sprawling hall of exhibits where almost everything is meant to be touched. Its signature pieces are the Segway-scale Science Live stage shows, a tornado simulator fitting for this state, a real Apollo-era space capsule and aviation gallery, the CurioCity children's area, the Kirkpatrick Planetarium's dome and the Destination Space gallery. A tall central atrium holds a 40-foot Foucault pendulum and hanging aircraft. Tinkering Garage workshops, high-wire bicycle rides and the SmartSpace makerspace fill the rest, and the museum keeps late hours for adult evenings. It sits beside the Oklahoma City Zoo, so many families pair the two.
