Seashore Trolley Museum
Specialty Museum · Kennebunkport, Maine
The world's first and largest museum of mass transit vehicles, founded in 1939 and run by the New England Electric Railway Historical Society. It holds hundreds of trolley cars, interurbans, rapid transit cars, trolley buses and motor buses from around the world, and - crucially - it runs them. A restored streetcar takes you along the museum's own track through the woods, which is why this is a working museum rather than a shed full of exhibits.
195 Log Cabin Road, Kennebunkport, Maine, 04046, United States
⚠ STRICTLY SEASONAL. The museum runs roughly May to October with the fullest operation in July and August, and reduced days at the shoulders. IT IS CLOSED THROUGH THE WINTER apart from special events. Check the day before travelling - the operating calendar varies year to year and the trolley ride, which is the point, does not run every day at the edges of the season.
