Seattle Art Museum

Art Museum · Seattle, Washington

The city's main art museum, founded in 1933 and since 2007 occupying an expanded downtown building behind Jonathan Borofsky's forty-eight-foot Hammering Man. It runs three sites - this one, the Seattle Asian Art Museum in Volunteer Park, and the free Olympic Sculpture Park on the waterfront. The permanent strength is Native American and Northwest Coast art, alongside Australian Aboriginal work and a solid Asian collection, and the ticket is largely driven by whatever touring exhibition is in.

1300 First Avenue, Seattle, Washington, 98101, United States

Generally 10 AM to 5 PM Wednesday to Sunday, with a later evening one night a week, and CLOSED MONDAYS AND TUESDAYS - which is the single most useful fact here, because visitors regularly arrive on a Monday. Closed major holidays. The Asian Art Museum in Volunteer Park and the free Olympic Sculpture Park keep their own separate hours.
