Seattle Asian Art Museum
Art Museum · Seattle, Washington
The Seattle Art Museum's Asian collection, in the 1933 Art Deco building in Volunteer Park that was the original Seattle Art Museum until the downtown site opened in 1991. Carl Gould's building is a landmark in its own right - low, symmetrical, sandstone-coloured, with the two camels outside that generations of Seattle children have sat on. It reopened in 2020 after a long closure for seismic work and a glass addition, and it holds Japanese, Chinese, Korean, South Asian and Southeast Asian work.
1400 East Prospect Street, Seattle, Washington, 98112, United States
Generally 10 AM to 5 PM Friday to Sunday with limited additional days, and CLOSED MOST OF THE WEEK - it keeps far shorter hours than the downtown Seattle Art Museum and this is the single thing to check before travelling. Volunteer Park around it is free and open daily from dawn until late.
