Senator John Heinz History Center

History Museum · Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Six floors of a converted 1898 ice house in Pittsburgh's Strip District, holding the largest history museum in Pennsylvania and the first Smithsonian affiliate anywhere. It covers western Pennsylvania across two hundred and fifty years — the frontier, the rivers, steel, immigration, glass and the region's peculiar concentration of inventions — and it holds the original set from Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, which was made in Pittsburgh and which visitors of a certain age approach with more feeling than they expected. The Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum occupies two floors of it.

1212 Smallman Street, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, 15222, United States

Open daily, generally 10 AM to 5 PM, closed on major holidays. One ticket covers both the History Center and the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum inside it. A combination ticket with Meadowcroft Rockshelter, which the same organisation runs, is available; Meadowcroft is seasonal.
