Seneca-Iroquois National Museum

History Museum · Salamanca, New York

⚠ THE SENECA NATION'S OWN MUSEUM, ON SENECA TERRITORY, TELLING SENECA HISTORY IN SENECA TERMS — the Onöhsagwë:de' Cultural Center at Salamanca, rebuilt and reopened in 2018. ⚠ IT IS NOT A MUSEUM ABOUT INDIGENOUS PEOPLE; IT IS ONE RUN BY THEM, and the difference is the whole point of visiting.

82 West Hetzel Street, Salamanca, New York, 14779, United States

⚠ CHECK THE OPENING DAYS BEFORE TRAVELLING — this is a small institution in a remote city and it has not always opened seven days a week. Salamanca is ninety minutes south of Buffalo and a wasted journey is a long one. ⚠ IF YOU VISITED THE OLD MUSEUM, THIS IS A DIFFERENT BUILDING: it reopened in 2018 as the Onöhsagwë:de' Cultural Center after a rebuild that roughly tripled the exhibition space. ⚠ ASK WHETHER A SENECA GUIDE IS AVAILABLE — it is the difference between reading panels and hearing the history from someone whose family lived it. ⚠ PHOTOGRAPHY RESTRICTIONS APPLY TO CERTAIN CULTURALLY SENSITIVE MATERIAL; the rule is posted and should be followed without argument. ⚠ THE KINZUA DAM INTERPRETATION covers a forced displacement within living memory and is genuinely distressing. Free parking. ⚠ HOURS AND PRICES NOT VERIFIED.
