Seven Falls

A 181 Foot Cascade Dropping In Seven Distinct Steps Through A Narrow Box Canyon In South Cheyenne Canon. A Ticketed Attraction Since The 1880s And Owned By The Broadmoor Since 2015, Which Rebuilt It After The 2013 Floods. · Colorado Springs, Colorado

Seven Falls drops a hundred and eighty-one feet in seven distinct steps down the back wall of a box canyon so narrow that the walls almost meet above it, and the whole thing has been a paying attraction since the 1880s, when the slogan was the grandest mile of scenery in Colorado. Two hundred and twenty-four steps climb the side of the falls to the top, where trails run on to Midnight Falls and Inspiration Point - the spot where the writer Helen Hunt Jackson asked to be buried, and was, until the crowds made it impossible and she was moved. There is also a lift cut into the rock for anyone who would rather not take the stairs. The Broadmoor bought the canyon in 2015 after floods and fire had wrecked the access, rebuilt it, and now runs it from a remote car park with a shuttle - you cannot simply drive up to the falls. The other thing worth knowing is that the flow is seasonal: fed by a small drainage, the cascade is at full volume in May snowmelt and a thin ribbon by a dry August.

1045 Lower Gold Camp Road, Colorado Springs, Colorado, 80905, United States

Open daily in the main season with reduced or suspended operation in deep winter and in bad weather; the canyon closes for high water, rockfall and ice. ACCESS IS BY SHUTTLE FROM A REMOTE CAR PARK OR ON FOOT - there is no public parking at the canyon mouth, which surprises most first-time visitors. Tickets are timed in busy periods. The falls are floodlit on summer evenings, which is a separate and later experience from a daytime visit. Broadmoor guests have their own shuttle arrangements.
