Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill

National Historic Landmark · Harrodsburg, Kentucky

The largest surviving collection of original nineteenth-century Shaker buildings in the United States — thirty-four of them, standing on three thousand acres of Bluegrass farmland above the Kentucky River palisades. A celibate communal religious society lived here from 1805 until 1910, farmed the land, and built in a plain style that has been copied ever since. It is a National Historic Landmark, it is a working farm and a nature preserve as well as a museum, and you can sleep in the original buildings.

3501 Lexington Road, Harrodsburg, Kentucky, 40330, United States

Open daily in the main season, generally 10 AM - 5 PM, with reduced hours and some buildings closed in winter. The Dixie Belle riverboat, horseback riding and some farm programmes are seasonal and weather dependent. The inn and restaurant keep their own hours. Check the calendar before travelling.
