Shanghai Tower
Tallest Building In China (632 M); Top Of Shanghai Observatory · Shanghai, Shanghai
The tallest building in China at 632 metres and one of the tallest in the world: a twisting glass spiral in Lujiazui, Pudong, completed in 2015, whose outer skin rotates about 120 degrees as it rises to shed wind loads. Its Top of Shanghai observatory on the 118th floor, about 546 metres up, is among the highest indoor observation decks on earth, reached by elevators that climb at up to 18 metres per second. From the deck you look down on the neighbouring Jin Mao Tower and Shanghai World Financial Center, across the Huangpu to the Bund, and over a city that stretches to the horizon. Higher floors reveal the giant tuned mass damper that steadies the tower, and the J Hotel occupies floors in the upper section. It anchors the skyline seen from the Bund.
