Shedd Aquarium

Aquarium · Chicago, Illinois

A 1930 Beaux-Arts aquarium on the Museum Campus, built with a marble hall and a Caribbean reef in the middle of it, and extended in 1991 with an Oceanarium whose far wall is glass onto Lake Michigan. It was for decades the largest indoor aquarium in the world and still holds one of the deepest collections of freshwater as well as marine species anywhere.
