Shell Falls and Shell Canyon
Bighorn National Forest Interpretive Site · Shell, Wyoming
A roadside waterfall in the Bighorn National Forest where Shell Creek drops through a narrow granite gorge beside US 14, on the Bighorn Scenic Byway between Greybull and Burgess Junction. A paved walkway leads from the car park to viewpoints over the falls, with signs on the geology and a seasonal information station. Below it, the red and grey walls of Shell Canyon make the drive up from the Bighorn Basin one of the best in the range. The falls drop about 120 feet, and at peak flow thousands of gallons of water pour through the gorge every second. The interpretive site beside US 14 has restrooms, signs and a seasonal information station. Shell Canyon itself has granite and sedimentary walls, and the road climbs on towards Burgess Junction.
