Shiloh National Military Park

National Military Park · Shiloh, Tennessee

Four thousand acres of west Tennessee farmland and oak woods above Pittsburg Landing, preserved almost exactly as it was fought over on 6 and 7 April 1862 — the bloodiest battle in America at the time it happened, and still one of the least altered Civil War fields anywhere. A 12.7-mile auto tour follows the two days in sequence past the Hornets' Nest, the Sunken Road and the Peach Orchard, and a national cemetery stands on the bluff above the river. On that same bluff, and almost universally walked past, sits a National Historic Landmark Mississippian mound complex a thousand years older than the battle.

1055 Pittsburg Landing Road, Shiloh, Tennessee, 38376, United States

Battlefield grounds and auto tour open daily sunrise to sunset, free. Visitor centre generally 8 AM - 5 PM. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. The Corinth Unit in Mississippi keeps its own hours.
