Shipshewana and Indiana Amish Country

Heritage Village · Shipshewana, Indiana

A village of a few hundred people in LaGrange County at the centre of the Elkhart-LaGrange Amish settlement, the third-largest Amish community in the United States after Holmes County in Ohio and Lancaster County in Pennsylvania. Horse-drawn buggies use the roads as ordinary traffic, the shoulders are built wide for them, and the surrounding farm country is worked without tractors. The village itself has become the settlement's commercial front — furniture makers, quilt shops, bulk food stores, a very large seasonal flea market and auction — and it draws sustained coach and car traffic from Chicago, Michigan and Ohio.

760 South Van Buren Street, Shipshewana, Indiana, 46565, United States

The village and its shops keep daytime hours Monday to Saturday and are CLOSED ON SUNDAY. The Shipshewana Auction and Flea Market runs Tuesdays and Wednesdays, May to September. Several businesses reduce hours or close entirely over winter.
