Shreveport Municipal Auditorium

National Historic Landmark · Shreveport, Louisiana

An Art Deco hall of 1929 in downtown Shreveport that broadcast the LOUISIANA HAYRIDE on KWKH every Saturday night from 1948 to 1960 — the radio show that put Hank Williams on the map and gave ELVIS PRESLEY HIS FIRST STEADY JOB after the Grand Ole Opry told him to go back to driving a truck. He played here for over a year and signed a contract on this stage. It is a working municipal venue rather than a museum, which means the way to see it is to buy a ticket to whatever is on.

705 Elvis Presley Avenue, Shreveport, Louisiana, 71101, United States

A WORKING MUNICIPAL VENUE WITH NO DAILY OPENING AND NO REGULAR PUBLIC TOUR — it is locked between events. Check the City of Shreveport events calendar; buying a ticket to whatever is on is the reliable way inside. Group tours by appointment through the City have existed at various times and the arrangement has come and gone. The building has had periods of limited operation and restoration work, so confirm it is active. The exterior, the terracotta and the Elvis statue are free at any hour. Bag policies are set by the event and there is no bag storage.
