Sierra de Arteaga
A Pine Forested Part Of The Sierra Madre Oriental With Cabins And Holiday Settlements At Los Lirios And Jame, Apple Orchards, A Cool Climate And A Little Snow In Winter. The Weekend Mountain Escape Of Saltillo And Monterrey, Quiet Outside Holiday Weeks · Arteaga, Coahuila
Sierra de Arteaga is a pine-forested part of the Sierra Madre Oriental in Coahuila, about 50 km south-west of Saltillo and roughly 90 km from Monterrey. It is the mountain escape of both cities, a cool, green area of cabins and holiday settlements at Los Lirios and Jame, with apple orchards, fresh air and quiet roads. In winter the cold can bring a little snow on weekends, and people from the dry plains drive up to see it. The area also offers horse rides, short forest walks, roadside stalls selling apples, cider and preserves, and fog that rolls in without warning. It suits families, couples and groups who want a cabin weekend, with a fire and a view, and not a hard hike. It is worth the detour when the city is hot, or when snow is forecast. It is not worth it if you want dramatic peaks, long trails, or a lively town, and it is quiet on weekdays. Book cabins early for winter weekends, and drive slowly in fog.
