The brewery in Chico that more or less invented American craft beer, founded in 1980 by a homebrewer with second-hand dairy equipment and a bank loan he struggled to get. Its Pale Ale defined what an American hoppy beer tastes like, and the Chico site is now a working brewery, a large restaurant, a music venue and a genuinely good free tour.
