Silver Dollar City
Theme Park · Branson, Missouri
An 1880s-themed park opened on 1 May 1960 on the Indian Point peninsula above Table Rock Lake, built on top of Marvel Cave - one of the oldest tourist attractions in the Ozarks, and the reason there was anything here at all. The theming is craft rather than cartoon: resident glassblowers, blacksmiths, potters and woodcarvers work in front of visitors all day, and the park runs long festivals rather than a flat season. It is 61 acres, which is small by modern standards, and it is built on a hillside, which visitors consistently underestimate.

SEASONAL. The operating season runs from around mid-March to early January, and the park is CLOSED FOR MOST OF JANUARY AND FEBRUARY. Within the season the calendar is irregular - some weeks are weekends-only, some are daily - and closing times vary from about 6 PM to 10 PM depending on the date and the festival. CHECK THE OPERATING CALENDAR FOR YOUR EXACT DATE; this is the single commonest planning error here.
