Sirkeci Station and the Orient Express Museum
A European Style Railway Terminus Of 1890 In A Mix Of Ottoman And Western Styles, With A Small Museum, A Restaurant With Period Decor And The Marmaray Metro Below. The Place Where The Orient Express Ended, A Short Walk From Sultanahmet · Fatih, Istanbul
Sirkeci Station stands on the old city side of the Golden Horn, a few minutes on foot from Gulhane Park and the Spice Bazaar. It opened in 1890 as the eastern end of the Orient Express line from Paris, and its stone hall with banded arches, small domes and a clock tower mixes Ottoman and European motifs in one facade. Long-distance trains have not run here for years, but the building lives on as a stop for the suburban Marmaray line under the street, for the tram above it, and as a small museum and restaurant. Inside the hall you can look at the iron roof, the old ticket windows and a few rooms of railway objects and photographs (confirm what is open). The station also marks the start of an easy walk to Sultanahmet along the tram line. Trains and ferries meet here, so the place is busy at rush hours and calm in mid-afternoon. Entry to the hall is normally free (confirm), and a visit fits neatly into a walk through the old city.

The station hall is open to passengers through the day and evening, with trains and the Marmaray running from early morning until about midnight (confirm). The museum rooms and the restaurant keep their own hours, usually a daytime schedule with a closed day each week, so check before planning a visit around them. Opening times shift in holidays and for repairs. Confirm the museum hours, any entry fee and the restaurant evening opening on the day.
