Sixth Street Historic District
Nightlife District · Austin, Texas
The strip of late-1800s Victorian commercial buildings in downtown Austin — originally Pecan Street — now packed with bars, clubs and music rooms and closed to traffic on weekend nights. It is the visible face of the self-declared Live Music Capital of the World and the spine of SXSW, though the city's serious live music has largely migrated to the adjoining Red River Cultural District and to East Sixth across the interstate.
East Sixth Street, Austin, Texas, 78701, United States
A public street, always open. Bars and venues generally run to 2 AM. Sixth closes to vehicle traffic on weekend nights. Busiest Thu-Sat; transformed entirely during SXSW in March.
