Snowshoe Mountain
Ski Resort · Snowshoe, West Virginia
The largest ski resort in the mid-Atlantic, opened in 1974 on Cheat Mountain at around 4,800 feet, with roughly 60 trails across three linked areas and about 1,500 feet of vertical. It is built upside down: the village sits at the summit and guests ski down and ride back up to their lodging, which is unusual in North America and catches first-timers out. In summer it becomes a downhill mountain bike park that has hosted World Cup racing.
10 Snowshoe Drive, Snowshoe, West Virginia, 26209, United States
Winter season roughly December to March, including night skiing at Silver Creek. Summer bike park and activities roughly May to October. The village, lodging and restaurants operate in both seasons; the shoulder weeks in April and November are largely shut.
