Soldier Field
Stadium · Chicago, Illinois
The oldest stadium in the National Football League, opened in 1924 as a memorial to American war dead and ringed with Doric colonnades that were the point of the whole design. In 2003 a modern seating bowl was dropped inside those colonnades, which is why it now looks the way it does — and why it was stripped of its National Historic Landmark designation three years later. It is the smallest stadium in the NFL and it sits on the Museum Campus lakefront.
