South Congress Avenue

Landmark Street · Austin, Texas

The stretch of Congress Avenue running south from the river, known universally as SoCo — a mile of boutiques, vintage shops, galleries, food trucks, bars and live music, with the Texas Capitol framed dead ahead when you look back north. It is where visitors go to find the Austin they were promised, and where Austinites argue about how much of it is left.

South Congress Avenue, Austin, Texas, 78704, United States

A public street, open at all times. Shops, murals and food trucks from late morning to early evening; bars and live music from around 9 PM until 2 AM. Busiest at weekends and effectively impassable during SXSW in March and ACL's two October weekends. ⚠ Parking is metered and scarce, and residential side streets are permit-restricted with active towing — the bus or rideshare is easier.
