Speed Art Museum

Art Museum · Louisville, Kentucky

Kentucky's oldest and largest art museum, founded in 1927 on the edge of the University of Louisville campus and reopened in 2016 after a long closure and a major expansion that added a glass north building to the original neoclassical one. The collection runs from ancient Egypt and medieval Europe through Dutch and Flemish painting to contemporary work, with a substantial holding of Kentucky and regional art. It is ten minutes from Churchill Downs and a fraction of the visitors who go to one ever go to the other.
