Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown Museum
Open Air Museum · Beaumont, Texas
A reconstructed 1901 boomtown on the edge of Beaumont, on the ground where the Lucas Gusher blew in on 10 January 1901 and threw oil a hundred and fifty feet into the air for nine days before anyone could cap it. That well produced more oil in a day than every other well in America combined, and the modern petroleum industry starts here.
5550 Jimmy Simmons Boulevard, Beaumont, Texas, 77705, United States
⚠ HOURS AND ADMISSION ARE NOT STATED HERE — I could not verify them. The museum is operated by Lamar University; check with them before travelling. ⚠ ASK ABOUT GUSHER RE-ENACTMENT DATES — a water-powered recreation of the Lucas Gusher is scheduled rather than daily and is the better visit. ⚠ The boomtown buildings are careful reconstructions on the historic ground, not originals.
