Srimangal Tea Country
Working Farm · Srimangal, Sylhet
The rolling green heart of Bangladeshi tea — dozens of estates carpeting the low hills around Srimangal town in Sylhet Division, worked much as they have been since the British planters laid them out in the nineteenth century. This row is the landscape and the town that serves it, not any single estate (the estates are working businesses): lanes through waist-high tea bushes under shade trees, plucking seasons, the Tea Research Institute, seven-layer tea, and the rainforest of Lawachara National Park on the region's edge. Also spelled Sreemangal.
Bhanugach Road, Srimangal, Sylhet, 3210, Bangladesh
The landscape has no gates or hours — dawn to dusk is the natural day. Lawachara National Park keeps daylight opening hours (roughly 9 AM-5 PM officially, but dawn entry for gibbons is commonly arranged with guides — UNVERIFIED). Estate factories visit by arrangement only. Town restaurants run late; much closes during Ramadan daylight.
