St. Augustine Lighthouse and Maritime Museum

Lighthouse · St. Augustine, Florida

A hundred and sixty-five feet of black-and-white spiral stripe on Anastasia Island, lit in 1874 and still working, with two hundred and nineteen steps to the gallery and a view straight back across the water to the oldest city in the country. The site runs a working maritime archaeology programme, and it is also one of the most persistently reported haunted buildings in America — which the museum leans into rather than away from.

100 Red Cox Drive, St. Augustine, Florida, 32080, United States

Open daily, generally 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunset and after-dark tours run on a limited separately ticketed schedule.
