St. Patrick's Cathedral
Church · New York, New York
The largest Gothic Revival Catholic cathedral in the United States, begun in 1858 on what was then farmland far north of the city and dedicated in 1879, with the spires added in 1888. It was built by an immigrant Irish congregation that was widely despised at the time, on a scale that was read as a deliberate statement, and Fifth Avenue subsequently grew around it rather than the reverse.
460 Madison Avenue, New York, New York, 10022, United States
