Twenty-six acres of pier and waterfront park opened in 2020 to replace the inverted concrete pyramid that stood here from 1973 and that the city argued about for a decade before demolishing. The replacement is free, it is a park rather than a building, and hanging over the approach is Janet Echelman's Bending Arc — a vast net sculpture that moves in the wind.
