Stark Museum of Art

Art Museum · Orange, Texas

A serious American West collection in Orange, on the Louisiana line, assembled by the Stark family from timber and oil money and given to the public — Bierstadt, Remington, Russell, Audubon's Birds of America, and a Steuben glass collection that is among the most complete anywhere. It is free, and it is a very long way from any other museum like it.

712 Green Avenue, Orange, Texas, 77630, United States

⚠ ADMISSION IS FREE. ⚠ HOURS ARE NOT STATED HERE — I could not verify them; check starkmuseum.org before travelling, and expect one or two closure days a week, which matters because Orange is a long drive from anywhere. ⚠ Ask which Audubon plates are currently on view — the folio is light-sensitive and displayed on rotation. ⚠ The W.H. Stark House across the street is a SEPARATE operation with its own hours, admission and guided tours.
