Stateline Casinos at Lake Tahoe
Casino Corridor On The Nevada Side Of The State Line At South Lake Tahoe, Begun With Harvey'S Wagon Wheel In 1944 · Stateline, Nevada
Stateline is the short strip of high-rise casinos on US Highway 50 where Nevada meets California on the south shore of Lake Tahoe. Gambling is illegal a few steps away in the California city of South Lake Tahoe, so since Harvey Gross opened Harvey's Wagon Wheel in 1944 the Nevada side has grown into a compact wall of hotel towers - today Harrah's Lake Tahoe, Harveys, Bally's Lake Tahoe (formerly the Hard Rock) and the former MontBleu, rebranded Golden Nugget Lake Tahoe - check current names. The Tahoe Blue Event Center, an arena opened in 2023 beside Harveys, added concerts and hockey. What makes Stateline different from Reno or Las Vegas is the setting: the casinos sit at about 6,200 feet among pines, a few minutes from Nevada Beach, the Zephyr Cove paddle-wheeler and the Heavenly gondola just across the line in California. Winter brings skiers and chain controls, summer brings beach crowds and fireworks. It is a base and a night out, not a destination in itself; the lake, Emerald Bay and Sand Harbor are the reasons people come.

NO OPENING TIME HERE WAS CHECKED. The typical pattern: the casino floors are open 24 hours every day, with restaurants on shorter hours, often closing by 10 or 11 pm, and buffets, where they still run, on limited days. Showrooms and the Tahoe Blue Event Center open only for scheduled events. The Heavenly gondola runs daytime hours in summer and ski season and closes in the spring and autumn shoulder weeks. Beaches and Forest Service sites keep daytime hours and close gates at dusk. The traps that ruin a day are driving in on a stormy Friday night without chains, reaching a beach on a summer Saturday after the lot has filled, finding the gondola shut for the shoulder season, and following an old name to the wrong casino. Confirm current times before relying on them.
