Steamboat Rock State Park

Subnational Park · Electric City, Washington

A basalt butte rising 800 feet straight out of Banks Lake in the Grand Coulee, with a plateau of more than 600 acres on top that you can walk out onto. It was an island in the Missoula Floods, standing while the water stripped the coulee around it, and the lake below is a reservoir created in the 1950s to feed irrigation from Grand Coulee Dam. The result is an improbable combination: a desert butte, warm swimmable water at its foot, and a campground under cottonwoods in the middle of the scablands.

51052 Highway 155, Electric City, Washington, 99123, United States

Open year round, 6:30 AM to dusk, with the campground busiest and fully serviced from spring to autumn. A Discover Pass is required to park. Summer camping reservations open months ahead and this is one of the most contested campgrounds in eastern Washington.
