Steamtown National Historic Site
National Historic Site · Scranton, Pennsylvania
A working steam railroad yard in central Scranton, built on the surviving roundhouse, turntable and shops of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad. The National Park Service took on a private collection of locomotives in 1986 and now runs it as a museum of how American steam railroading actually functioned — not a display of polished engines, but a shed with a turntable, a machine shop and locomotives in every condition from restored and steaming to rusting where they stand.
350 Cliff Street, Scranton, Pennsylvania, 18503, United States
Generally open daily 10 AM to 4 PM, with longer hours in summer, and reduced days in the depths of winter. Excursion trains and yard-shuttle rides run on a seasonal schedule, mainly summer and autumn weekends, and are ticketed separately. Closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day.
