Stone Street Historic District
Heritage District · New York, New York
A two-block pedestrianised lane of nineteenth-century warehouses in the Financial District, laid out on a Dutch street pattern and ⚠ REPORTEDLY THE FIRST PAVED STREET IN NEW YORK — the Dutch cobbled it in 1658, which is where the name comes from. It was restored in the 1990s from near-dereliction and is now the district's eating and drinking street, with tables down the middle of the cobbles in summer.
Stone Street, New York, New York, 10004, United States
An open pedestrianised street — free, no gate, no hours. Individual restaurants and bars keep their own hours. ⚠ UNLIKE THE REST OF THE FINANCIAL DISTRICT, STONE STREET TRADES AT WEEKENDS, which makes it the answer if you are in Lower Manhattan on a Saturday or Sunday and want to eat. In warm weather the restaurants put tables down the middle of the cobbles and the street fills from about 5 p.m. on weekdays. ⚠ THE COBBLES ARE UNEVEN HISTORIC PAVING and there is no smooth alternative route.
