Storm King Art Center
Open Air Museum · New Windsor, New York
Five hundred acres of hills, fields and woodland in the Hudson Highlands, opened in 1960 and now holding more than a hundred large-scale sculptures sited in the landscape rather than displayed in it. The land was reshaped for the art — Richard Serra's Schunnemunk Fork and Maya Lin's Wavefield are earthworks as much as sculptures — and the surrounding mountains were deliberately bought up over decades to protect the view.
