Lava Tube · Old Station, California
A third of a mile of lava tube in the Lassen National Forest at Old Station, formed roughly twenty thousand years ago when the surface of a lava flow crusted over and the molten rock beneath drained away. It is free, unstaffed and completely unlit — you bring your own torch or you see nothing at all.
