Sugarbush
Ski Resort · Warren, Vermont
A large ski resort spread across two mountains in the Mad River Valley at Warren, with a lift-served network that runs to over a hundred trails and a base village at Lincoln Peak. It is one of the biggest operations in Vermont and it is the conventional half of a valley that also contains Mad River Glen - the co-operative ten minutes up the road that bans snowboarders and grooms almost nothing. Skiing the two in the same week is the standard Mad River Valley trip, and the contrast between them is most of the reason to do it.

⚠ SEASONAL IN TWO SEASONS WITH A GAP BETWEEN THEM. The ski season runs roughly late November to mid April depending on snow; summer lift-served mountain biking and sightseeing run roughly late June to early September, and the lifts do not turn in the spring and autumn gaps. LIFT TICKETS ARE CHEAPER BOOKED ONLINE AND AHEAD and the resort sits on a major multi-resort season pass. ⚠ NOTHING HERE COVERS MAD RIVER GLEN, ten minutes up the valley - it is a separate business with a separate ticket and there is no valley pass. ⚠ ROUTE 17 OVER THE APPALACHIAN GAP IS A STEEP SWITCHBACK MOUNTAIN ROAD and is serious in winter; approach up the valley from Waitsfield instead unless you know it. A shuttle works the corridor between the base areas and the valley in season. April into early June is mud season and much of the valley closes.
