Sundial Bridge
Iconic Bridge · Redding, California
A cable-stayed footbridge over the Sacramento River in Redding, designed by Santiago Calatrava and opened in 2004 — his first free-standing bridge in the United States. Its 217-foot pylon is a working sundial, though it tells the time accurately on only one day of the year, and the deck is translucent glass lit from beneath at night.
844 Sundial Bridge Drive, Redding, California, 96001, United States
Open at all hours, free. Turtle Bay Exploration Park keeps its own hours and charges separately.
