Sunshine Skyway Bridge

A cable-stayed span carrying I-275 four hundred and thirty feet above the mouth of Tampa Bay on bright yellow cables, opened in 1987 to replace the bridge a freighter destroyed in 1980 with the loss of thirty-five lives. The remains of that older bridge still stand either side as the world's longest fishing pier, which makes this one structure telling two stories at once.
