T.C. Steele State Historic Site

Historic House · Nashville, Indiana

The hilltop home and studios of Theodore Clement Steele, the leading painter of the Hoosier Group of American Impressionists, who moved to this ridge in Brown County in 1907 and painted the surrounding hills for the rest of his life. The House of the Singing Winds, the Large Studio and about two hundred and eleven acres of grounds survive with the family's furnishings and a substantial collection of Steele's own paintings, including work left on the easel. His wife Selma laid out the gardens, which are part of the point.
